Kelly Holmes
Funny how washed up, middle aged women like her who no self respecting man would touch suddenly realise they are rug munchers in their 50's. Clearly after the sympathy vote for being a washed up, ugly spinster!

What Arkle had was strictly Guinness

I was feasting on Lester Piggott Youtube videos and the one that struck me was, he comes out of prison goes over to America and wins the fucking Breeders Cup at the age of 55, what a legend

If an athlete, modern day sports "icon" is necessary for whatever propaganda purposes they are being used for (i.e. Linford Christie), and or generates massive amounts of money (Messi, Anthony Joshua, Canelo etc) they are granted untouchable status and given a generous blind eye from the drug testing authorities and governing bodies.

Kind of annoying if your love for the sports is genuine.

It would be quite interesting and I am sure entertaining to watch a sport where everyone is doped up to the maximum and there are no restrictions or limits.

An olympics on steroids!

Re: Kelly Holmes
What about Ed Moses? He won 122 races in a row ffs. Either just physically built differently or on drugs all that time and no one knew!

Re: Kelly Holmes
If you reach the pinnacle of a sport (not football of course), you’re clearly on drugs.

So we finally ended up here. Of course, if you don’t like said sportsman/woman/they for any reason, it’s automatically doping.

In which case, what is the point of following any sport?

Stop the fucking world.

No, just the 1500, her 800 PB was achieved at Monte Carlo in 1995.

Re: Kelly Holmes
Heard this stat recently.....

Out of the 30 fastest 100m sprint times ever, only nine were achieved by an athlete not associated with doping.

All nine were run by Usain Bolt

There's a couple of ways of reading that......swt

PBs at 34 in the 800 and 1500m?

Re: Kelly Holmes
Those performances by Kelly Holmes were not statistical anomolies. She had been capable of major medals for years but got injured just before major champs for years. It was the first time in ages she had turned up at a championship fully fit for yonks when she got her medals.

'Good luck to Lance Armstrong, he never missed/or failed in training or post race tests.'

That's what they used to say.

Re: Kelly Holmes
Flow Jo and Holmes are two different cases. Joyner-Griffiths had a step change in performance towards the end of her career including the setting up of long standing world records.

Holmes is completely different in that she never set world records simply won a double gold at an Olympics. I repeat that her 800 time in Athens 2004 was no real improvement on what she had achieved eleven years previously. The real reason that Holmes managed double golds was drug related only insofar as her main rivals, being east European/Russian druggies, were not present.

Good luck to Holmes, she never missed/or failed in training or post race tests.

CS

I agree with almost everything you posted. My one quibble is that pretty much everyone with a passing interest in track and field thinks Flo-Jo was a cheat.

Re: Kelly Holmes
Surely not everyone who's just much better than everyone else must be on the roids. I know it's s team sport so different but look at Cristiano Ronaldo's goalscoring record compared to almost anyone else. Must be on something too right?

....oh hang on....

Re: Kelly Holmes
On Mark Spitz, there's a good story about the moustache. Basically he told the Russians that it aided performance when he showed up with one to the Olympics, and then shortly afterwards all the Russians started growing them too.
